CLONMEL GOLF CLUB
After three weekends and just short of 300 entries there was finally a conclusion to the Xmas Hampers with most of the delay caused by frost. Three players on 38 points had a nail biting few days waiting to see if they would win or be surpassed and indeed surpassed they were on Saturday, the penultimate day of the competition, when Keith Norris (9) returned a fantastic 39 points to win by the minimum. The day was dry but cold and the conditions were typical Winter with no run on the ball, but the greens were in really good condition and Keith played the 15 holes in level par. A good striker of the ball Keith was one under par after a birdie four on the fourth hole and dropped his first of only two shots dropped in the round on the sixth (and one on the eighth) but had a great birdie four on the ninth to close out the nine on level par and 22 points. Of the last six holes played, Keith had five pars and a birdie on the twelfth to add another 17 points to his score for a winning total of 39. The three waiting to see if they would be surpassed on 38 points were, Sean Leavy (21), Michael McArdle (18) and John Molloy (9) who were 2nd, 3rd and 4th respectively and the gross was won by Michael O’Neill (3) with an excellent 30 points. The full results are:

CLUB AGM 2017
At a very well attended AGM on 30th November last Michael Mullane was elected as the 2018 & 2019 President of Clonmel Golf Club. In a wide-ranging address to the members Michael outlined his vision for the Club for the coming two years. This includes maintaining the highest standards on the course, attracting new members to Clonmel Golf Club, ensuring that our clubhouse is maintained to a high standard that will create a warm friendly environment for members and visitors alike, working in close harmony with the Men’s and Ladies Golf Committees for the betterment of golf, being financially prudent and promoting golf in a safe & progressive Junior Section for boys and girls.
Michael paid a warm tribute to the 3 retiring Trustees Maura Morrison, Tom Bourke and Timmy O Dwyer who have given invaluable service to Clonmel Golf Club over many years. He thanked all staff members and paid a thanks to the many volunteers who have given freely of their time for the benefit of others. The President highlighted the need to support the Junior Golf Committee led by David Morris and was delighted to congratulate Frank O’Keeffe on being presented with the Club Person of the Year Award. We now have a Marketing & Recruitment Officer in Sinead Healy – the first in the 106-year history of Clonmel Golf Club.
Fundraising still forms a major segment of the Club Finances and the President appealed to all members to support competitions and fundraising events.
Our Treasurer Con Hogan gave a detailed account of the Club Finances for 2017. He did highlight that the reported surplus had to be placed alongside the long-term debt and the overdraft facility that is ever present.
Course Chairman Ned Lonergan gave an account of the activities on the course over the previous 12 months. In highlighting the need for some capital investment over the next few years Ned was fulsome in his praise for course staff Frank, Sean and Kieran and the many volunteers that turn out regularly when called upon. The devastation caused by the recent Storm Ophelia was an example of the willingness of staff and volunteers alike to have the course safe and pristine for the members and visitors to play.
The President made a presentation to Áine Myles Keating who had just completed 25 years of service as Secretary Manager to Clonmel Golf Club. The meeting concluded with the President wishing all the members and their families a happy and peaceful Christmas and the good health to be able to enjoy their golf into 2018 and beyond
