New Competition - New Sponsor
Last week a new competition was announced, ‘Choose Your Partner’ to replace the Magic 7 and all members were given the details by e-mail during the week. Well this week we can announce that the new competition will be sponsored by Martin Kane. Martin took over the franchise of the Club bar and restaurant during the year and has been receiving excellent praise from all quarters since he started.
The Club is grateful to Martin for his generous sponsorship.
Presentation to Trustees
Clonmel Golf Club hosted a very well attended function on Saturday evening last to mark the retirement of 3 long serving Trustees - Maura Morrison, Tom Bourke and Timmy O Dwyer. Secretary Sean Callaghan welcomed the Trustees and their families to the Club and was delighted to have Captains Tony Horne & Liz Binchy in attendance representing Men’s and Ladies Golf. Club President Michael Mullane detailed the long history of service and membership of the Trustees and remarked that they had accumulated almost 160 years of unbroken membership between them.
Tom Bourke, having joined the Club in 1958 served on many committees before being elected President in 1993. Tom has served two 3-year terms as Trustee. Tom had been invited to joined join by Tommy Fennessy and has enjoyed many hours of golf with a lot of members. The President referred to the incredible advice, friendship and support that Tom has offered to all members.
Maura Morrison joined the Club in 1966 and served as Captain and President of Clonmel Golf Club. Maura was bestowed with life Honorary Membership in 2016 as a m ark of appreciation of a lifetime of service to the Club. Her husband Jim had been a recipient of a similar award a few years earlier. Every Captain and President were treated to some wonderful floral arrangements for special events during their tenure as Officers of the Club. Presidents and Captains were special guests at all the Morrison weddings. Maura has also served as Trustee for the last 6 years. Club President Michael described Maura as an outstanding example of loyalty and dedication and remarked on the respect and dignity that she brings to the Club.
Timmy O Dwyer joined Clonmel Golf Club in 1973. He has served on every committee that it is possible to serve on. He has been on Men’s Golf Committees and sub committees. He has served on Management Committees. He served as Captain in 1994, President in 2001 and Trustee for 6 years. He has served as Honorary Secretary for 10 years. Timmy’s abiding quality is his loyalty to Club. He brings many other qualities to the table. As Honorary Secretary of this Club, one of the many areas that he had responsibility for was Membership and has always been an advocate of never preventing anyone from being a member because of a financial difficulty. Timmy always found a method and the method remained confidential between Timmy and whoever it was that he came to an arrangement with. This character trait is unique and one that he has never betrayed. Timmy has always sided on what was right and best for golf.
Club President of 2017 Liam Maunsell made a presentation to the 3 retired Trustees – Maura Morrison, Tom Bourke & Timmy O Dwyer. Each of the 3 Trustees responded and spoke of their appreciation of the Club’s presentation. All remarked on the enjoyment that they received from their involvement in Committees at the Club. They wished the Officers and Committees well for 2018 and into the future.
Please note that when the notice is up instructing members to keep their buggies on the paths we would ask buggy owners and users to comply with this rule.
