CLONMEL GOLF CLUB
Barlo Motors Open 4Ball
The Barlo Motors sponsored open 4ball was played over the weekend and while the underfoot going was very tough on the legs and no run on the ball the scoring was exceptional for the conditions and winning by just one shot from the chasing pack was John Byrne (15) and Kevin Keating (12) who had 46 stableford points with halves of 23. There was magnificent consistency in their dove tailing throughout the eighteen holes and without the handicaps being written on the scorecard it would be difficult to figure who was the low man of the pair. They started in a poor enough fashion with bogeys at the first two holes but then settled down to be level par for the rest of the first nine. A bogey on the 13th was immediately negated with a birdie on the signature hole and while another bogey was ceded to the 16th it was again immediately negated with a birdie on the 17th and they finished with a bogey for a one over par back nine for their 46 points. It was less clear cut who was going to be the runner up because there were three pairings on 45 points but the brothers Peter and Nigel Foran had a great 24 points on the back nine to scuttle the hopes of Tom Duggan and Edgar Lonergan and similarly Tom and Edgar scuttled the hopes of Tom O’Neill and Tony Norris when they shot 23 points on the back nine against 21 by Tom and Tony. All in all, a very good competition with great prizes on offer which are kindly sponsored by Barlo Motors, Clonmel and Thurles.
