Ladies Notes
Our summer has officially started with longer days and high spirits more evident in Clonmel Golf Club. This season brings drier conditions to the golf course, noticeable in the increased ‘run on the ball’.

Mary McKenna Team
Congratulations to the 10 ladies who bravely represented our club in the Mary McKenna competition on Tuesday May 7th. Our opponents on the day were our neighbours Cahir Park. A tough battle was fought by all 5 teams, with Clonmel coming out on top on the day. However, both teams must do it again on Friday next May 17th in Cahir Park to find a winner. That team will progress to the next round. Best of luck to all involved and a big thank you to our team, team managers, our opponents and our supporters. Thanks to Gillian and John for the delicious meal provided for both teams after a long competition.

MENS NOTES:
Update to Handicap Calculations for 2024
Many members may have noticed some changes to their Course Handicap & Playing Handicap since April 1st this year. It is important to note that these changes are as a result of updates made by the World Handicap System, and not by your club.
There are two primary changes which affect Course Handicap & Playing Handicap. These are:
- The addition of Plus Course Rating Minus Par to the end of the formula for calculating Course Handicap.
- The use of unrounded Course Handicaps for the calculation of Playing Handicaps (machine precision calculations).
HowDidiDo have produced a very informative video to explain and demonstrate these changes. I would encourage every member to take the time to view the short video. The link to view the video was sent out via the club mailing system at the weekend.
It is also important to know that the Handicap tables displayed at the club are accurate for General Play or Matchplay, where 100% handicap allowances are in use. For all other competitions you just need to trust the computer to give you the correct Playing Handicap on the day.
Inter-Club Teams
A busy season of club competition continued this week. First off, our JB Carr team had a great win over Cahir in Clonmel last Tuesday, and now move on to face Ballykisteen over two legs in what is a county final.
The Senior Men’s play their 2nd round of competition away to Thurles next Tuesday.
Unfortunately our Jimmy Bruen team were defeated by a spirited Carrick-On-Suir team on Saturday. Played in great weather, the matches were all nip and tuck but Carrick made use of their home advantage to come out victorious on the day. Best of luck to Carrick in the next round of competition.
Our Juniors were involved in a titanic battle on Sunday against Tramore in the Junior foursomes. Tramore eventually running out winners on the 5th playoff hole. A great effort by all!
The Junior Fred Daly team play at home against Faithlegg on Friday afternoon next, May 17th. Come out and support our rising stars. The match gets under way at 4.15pm.
